Spring Break 2017: Blonde & Bronzed

Although its not officially Spring, I’ve been getting really anxious for warm weather! Summer might be a few months away, but thankfully my Spring vacation is right around the corner!  With warm weather in mind, I’ve freshened up my blonde and taken my tan to the next level. Read on below to find out how I maintain my tan and highlights.

FINISHING POWDER:  || Makeup Forever Pro Finish Multi-Use Powder in Neutral Beige

CONTOUR & BLUSH: || Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit in Medium to Tan & Milani Baked Blush (Luminous Peach

HIGHLIGHT:  ||  Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit

EYESHADOW:  ||  Tarteist PRO Amazonin Clay Palette (Innocent, Whimsy, Smoked, & Ethereal)

MASCARA :  || Clinique Lash Power Feathering Mascara

LIPS:  ||  Kylie Cosmetics Matte Liquid Lipstick in Candy K

TAN :  || To achieve a deep natural-looking tan, I do a cocktail of a UV bed with a VersaSpa Sunless Tan.  The UV bed helps stimulate melanin production while opening the pores aiding the absorption of the sunless spray.  I always use the Catalina Spray because it’s a violet based bronzer, which helps to avoid any unwanted orange hues. Click here to read about my go-to tanning lotion.

HIGHLIGHTS :  || To freshen up my blonde ends, I used a packet of Clairol Kaleidocolors Blue Powder Lightener mixed with Loreal 20 Volume Creme Developer. I began by applying  this to my ends while gradually working the product upwards towards my roots. By applying the product in this fashion I was able to revitalize my professional ombre that was starting to show through, so I wasn’t totally going in blind. I am by no means a professional and take BIG risks by doing my hair at home, but thankfully it all worked out and it only costs about $10.  I typically seek professional aid when bleaching my hair as it can be very drying, but i am a huge fan of toning my hair at home. To tone out any brassiness after bleaching I use Wella T18 by Color Charm and Loreal 20 Volume Creme Developer. I apply this mixture to problem areas first, before coating the rest of my blonde strands. I generally keep it away from my roots as they are naturally a gray-brown, and don’t need to be toned. The toner usually lasts 1-2 months with the help of a weekly purple shampoo, but generally leaves your hair less brassy than before application even after it washes away.

Valentine’s Date Night Makeup: Bright & Bold ♥

After creating a soft rose gold look for Valentine’s Day, I wanted to up the drama a bit and do something more bold for the evening. I knew I wanted a plum colored smokey eye, but the bright ombre lip was unplanned. I’m still floating ideas around in my head of other looks I could create, so don’t be surprised if I throw a third Valentine’s day look at you! I’m thinking dark cherry colors for a more vampy look..

Daytime Valentine’s Makeup: Soft Rose Gold ♥

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner I’ve found myself lusting over the Anastasia Beverly Hill’s Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette & Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette. I have enough eyeshadow palettes that I don’t really need anymore, but there are still a few colors that I lack. I’m drawn to the Modern Renaissance Palette for its rich berry tone shades, and the Sweet Peach Palette for its pinks, corals, and purples. I decided I could make do with a few single pot shadows, but my obsession is growing strong as I am weak. It is for this reason I am avoiding Sephora like the plague…

For this Valentine’s Day look I couldn’t decide if I wanted something cute and innocent or dark and sultry. I decided to go with the former but amp it up with NYX’s new “Hot Singles” Eyeshadow in Wild Orchid. I’m beginning to grow tired of my staple nude lip, but didn’t want to take away from the subtle pop of color in the shadows. I’m already beginning to vision my next post with a sultry eye and bold lip….

How to Self-Motivate & Reach Resolutions

It’s almost 30 days past NYE, and I’m still gripping tight to my resolutions. I refuse to let go and give up, but it isn’t always easy finding the motivation to push through. Sometimes all it takes to find that extra strength is stepping away from whatever task may be at hand and clearing the mind. Below are a few tips & tricks I utilize to kickstart my day!

Get your beauty sleep!

The best thing you can do before tackling any tasks for the day is to prepare the night before. A good night’s sleep can set you up for a successful day. Easier said than done, but I’ve found taking a hot bath or shower before bed helps me to relax. Check out my Nighttime Ritual post to find out how I unwind!

Watch a motivating video

I’ll never forget one of my college professors playing a rocky montage video for our class. I can’t remember why, and I’ve never seen a rocky movie, but I still get pumped thinking about how motivated it left me feeling afterward. If you’re not trying to get amped up to exercise, try watching your favorite music video, or even just putting on an upbeat playlist while you get ready can help you to seize the day.

Exercise

It doesn’t have to be anything intense, but even just a little stretching in the morning can go a long way to triggering those feel-good endorphins. Dailyburn.com is doing a free 1 month trial for new users which provides access to hundreds maybe even thousands of workout videos. They even do them live EVERYDAY at 9am. You can also sign up to get your very own online personal trainer. If you’re not ready to commit to a gym, this is a great way to get your toes wet.

DISCLAIMER: You NEED to provide credit card information, and if you don’t want to pay for this membership the following month, set an alert on your phone to cancel before the 30 days are up!

Prioritize & Write Down Your Goals

It’s important to set goals if you want to better yourself. They don’t necessarily have to be career related, nor do they have to be big long-term goals, but something as simple as drinking more water can go a long way! Start off by jotting different goals down, and figuring out what steps you’ll need to take to reach them. Don’t worry so much about the result, but focus on your daily task. i.e. If you want to drink more water start off by increasing your intake by just 1 glass a day or cutting out other beverages like juice, or beer…

Clean

A clean home/living space can help to reset your mind. I know the more clutter I have around the house, the higher my stress level is. Do a few simple tasks like keeping the sink free of dirty dishes, clearing countertops, and catching up on laundry. Once you have a clean space it’ll be easier to focus on the task at hand.

Caffeinate!

Lastly, if you feel like you need an extra boost, you can always turn to a good old cup of Joe for the support you need. Sometimes around 3pm I find myself a bit sluggish so I’ll make myself a cup of afternoon tea. It’s all the boost I need to finish the day, and won’t keep me up at night. If soda is your thing, try a coke, but In the long run you’ll benefit more if you skip the added sugar!

What are some of your favorite ways to self-motivate?

Winter Chill: Cold Weather Inspired Makeup

Inspired by this chilly weather and the new year, I created a look using cooler shades and a touch of glitter in the corner of my eyes. I normally never stray from pinks and browns when choosing eyeshadow, so I wanted to venture out of my comfort zone. Although I haven’t seen the popular animated film Frozen…I did feel a little bit like the character Elsa! ❅

My Night Time Skincare Routine

1.Wash off Make-up:  The most important step in my night time routine is to remove any makeup or build up from the day. Its a step I never ever skip! I’ve recently become obsessed with Lush Cosmetic’s cream cleanser. Although, I’ve used others that worked just as efficiently. The all natural ingredients just make me feel so much more relaxed. The cleanser is mainly made from beeswax, almond oil, honey and rose water. Other makeup removers can be packed full of chemicals and who knows what else?

>>> Lush Cosmetics Ultra Gentle Beeswax Cleanser, Ultrabland

2.Scrub & Face Mask: After removing all makeup, I like to buff my skin with an exfoliant and washcloth. I do this a bit differently than the directions typically suggest. I don’t add any water because I find I can get a better scrub without it, and use much less product. Following the exfoliant, I clear my face of any leftover beads with warm water and a fresh cloth. This allows my face to be perfectly primed for a face mask so it can work to its full potential and soothe any irritation or redness. Ill leave that on until its dry, which usually takes about ten minutes before wiping off. I think its important to use fresh washcloths and assign one for exfoliating and one for cleansing. I probably only use each wash cloth twice before sending it to laundry. Some people might think this is a little extreme, but I can’t stand the idea of wiping dirt off just to rub it back into my pores!

I have to confess BOTH of the products listed below were Christmas presents I intended for my boyfriend to use, but they are so good I can’t help but sneak a little!

>>> Clinique for Men, Face Scrub

>>> Origins, Clear Improvement Charcoal Mask

3.Moisturize: Once the face mask has been removed and my skin feels youthful and taught, I slather on a healthy amount of moisturizer to soak over night. I often vary day to day with different facial creams I’ve received in the mail, but I always have my Tatcha oil as a staple.

>>> Tatcha, Gold Camellia Beauty Oil

4.Hot Bath: I don’t shower every night, but if you’re having troubles unwinding it’s a great way to switch off for the day. There’s something very soothing about a hot bath followed by a generous amount of body lotion that helps me drift off to sleep. Its comforting (Dare I say, sexy?) knowing I’m climbing into bed fresh and free of any dirt or buildup.

>>> Lush Cosmetics Bath Bombs, Bars, & Oils

>>> Bliss Body Butter, Vanilla & Bergamot

5.Essential oil & Lip balm: Lastly, once I’m in bed I like to switch on my essential oil diffuser. I typically use lavender in the evening for relaxation, and grapefruit in the morning to brighten my day. Occasionally, I’ll just take a little and rub it behind my ears for a more immediate effect. The one last thing I do before my kiss goodnight is lip balm. This is crucial. I cannot sleep without my lip balm on my nightstand…or my kiss goodnight!

>>> Young Living Essential Oils

>>> Dior, Crème de Rose

Fresh Start 2017: Barely There Makeup

Now that it’s 2017, a lot of trends are going out of style. I’ve read a lot of mixed opinions about bushy brows, are they in or are they out? Only time can tell, but my guess is that they are just going to be toned down a little bit and only filled in as-needed. Blush is coming back, and contouring is out. Hellooo dramatic 80’s cheek bones! Matte lips still have a place, but now a lot of MUA’s are putting a coat of shimmer over top, or ditching the matte look entirely for glitter/metallic looks. Bold red lips were a hit on the runway paired with muted/nude barely there makeup. Keep your eye out for “Parisian” or “french-girl” makeup tutorials! Mainly whats going out of style is the “Instagram Makeup” with thick eyeliner, heavy contouring, and overall over-done looks. We’ll see if this holds to be true. Basically the upcoming trends are headed in a more natural & romantic direction.

So far my main focus this year is  skincare. I’ve seen a huge improvement since I switched makeup brands, started drinking more water, and cutting out junk food/alcohol. So I’m keeping things simple for now.

How I created this look:

What are you loving/hating for this new year??

New Year’s Eve 17′ Makeup: Unicorn Tears Remix

Yesterday I did a trial run of what I might do for my makeup tonight…but I totally changed my mind! I reallllllly wanted to incorporate Too Faced’s La Creme Lipstick in Unicorn Tears so i went for it! I’m wearing the same all black outfit as planned. I’ll try to get a photo of the makeup/outfit later this evening. The big difference in this look, other than the obvious, is that I incorporated Too Faced’s Love Palette. I mainly used the color, Sweetie Pie, and didn’t use the Tart Tarteist Pro To Go Palette at all.  I also added a small amount of Makeup Forever’s Khol Pencil in the shade Metallic Turquoise.

It’s still early, (5 o’clock) and I’m already thinking I’ll be adding more of the Metallic Turquoise Kohl Liner when I touch up later! Maybe even use a little bit of Lipstick Queen’s Black Lace Rabbit Lipstick as a lip liner, which will add an ombre effect to my lips. Black Lace Rabbit is a black shimmery color that changes the shade of your lipstick (or natural lip) to a slightly darker hue. It’s pretty fun to play with, but I haven’t found the right occasion for it. I’m running out of time to try my products from 2016, so its now or never!

Check out my last post here to see a little sneak peak of my outfit, more make up details of products used, and what I had originally planned for tonight.

Cheers, be safe and see you all next year!!

New Year’s Eve 17′ Makeup Sneak Peak

NYE Glitter Crease and Wing

T W E N T Y . S E V E N T E E N

This year for NYE, I wanted to create a look that would really make my eyes pop, and a super soft nude lip. I’m wearing an all black jumpsuit that I got for a steal at Target for $29! I’ll be pairing it with a maxi black cardigan my mother got me for Christmas (thanks Mom!) and a suede pump by Ralph Lauren. To be totally honest, I can’t believe how much those pumps cost! I got them at Marshalls roughly 6 months ago for $35 and the website currently lists them for $525! (The only difference is that mine are a royal green color) Anyway excuse me while i scoop my jaw off the floor! All together my outfit is less than $100, so i wanted to do something really fun for my makeup.

P.S. The glitter was difficult to capture on camera, but to get a better idea of what I did for shadow on my lids…check out the video down below!

BROWS: ||  Anastasia Beverly Hills DIPBROW™ Pomade in Taupe & Skone Cosmetics Brow Wand in Chocolate

MOISTURIZER & PRIMER:  || Too Faced Primed & Poreless Skin Smoothing Face Primer & Sephora Beauty Amplifier Eye Primer

FOUNDATION:  || MAC Pro Longwear (NC25)

CONCEALER:  || MAC Studio Finish (NW20) & Urban Decay Naked Skin Correcting Fluid in Yellow

FINISHING POWDER:  || Makeup Forever Pro Finish Multi-Use Powder in Neutral Beige

CONTOUR: || Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit in Medium to Tan

HIGHLIGHT:  ||  Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit

EYESHADOW:  || Tarte Pro To Go Palette (Drive, Stylin, & Dominate) & Urban Decay Naked2 Basics (undone)

GLITTER:  ||  Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter in Midnight Cowboy & Urban Decay Liquid Moondust Cream Eyeshadow in Chem trail

MASCARA :  || The Balm Mad Lash Mascara

LIPS:  || Dior Creme de Rose Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm,  Too Faced Melted Liquified Longwear Lipstick in Melted Sugar

There’s still time for me to change my look for tomorrow night, so suggestions are welcome! I’m still contemplating changing it up entirely so I can wear my Unicorn Tears lipstick by Too Faced…I mean when else can I pull that off??? I’d love to hear thoughts/feedback, and what you all have planned for New Year’s Eve.
